Winton Win Double Gold

Last week Winton attended the annual Dorset School Games competition held at Bryanston School. The Dorset School Games involves a lot of level 3 competitions for schools that have won events within Bournemouth or respective towns. Winton were representing Bournemouth in Handball and Quad Kids Athletics.

We took two handball teams and both competed really well in the 5 games each team played in the morning session. It was then a double edged sword as this meant both our teams qualified to play in the top tier of 5 teams playing each other for the top honours in the afternoon session. The afternoon saw Winton 1 beat Kingsleigh, Lockyers Middle, Branksome Heath Middle, Canford Middle and an extremely close game with our Winton 2nd team (Winton 2 winning for quite some time in this fixture) to become overall champions out of the 15 schools there. A fantastic achievement.

In Athletics our team of 12 athletes competed in 4 events each: The howler throw, the 75m sprint, a standing long jump and a 600m run. Each athlete got points depending on how far they had thrown or jumped and on how fast they had run. At the end of the event it was really pleasing to see Winton top of the points board and therefore gold medallist winners on the day against the other schools involved.

As always The Dorset Games was most enjoyable as “The Cultural Village” also gave the children some time to try out a range of innovative and fun challenges to do with PE. Watch out for a future video to see stilt walking, a bouncy castle cricket catching simulator and aerobics on trampolines as just a few highlights of the time the children (and teachers!) spent here!

Well done to everyone involved.
