Year 1 were lucky enough to have a visit from the RSPB who took them on a bioblitz. This meant that the children in Year 1 were looking out for signs of wildlife on the school grounds and then recording them so at the end they could share what they had found!
They had a fantastic time! I was really impressed how eager they were to look for insects, listen out for birds and spot signs of other animals.
The children helped lay out the tarpaulin so that when they shook the bushes, any insects would fall onto it so they could investigate them closely.
Some children in Year 1 were even brave enough to catch and pick up some insect. They had snails, earwigs, woodlouse, caterpillars and spiders – some were pretty big too!!
These girls were patient enough to find a grasshopper! We also found some animal footprints – ask your Year 1 child who they belonged to!!
They had a fantastic time on the bioblitz! Thank you RSPB for visiting and exploring with us!
